My husband and I are in the middle of trying to get our
house ready to show. If we can sell it tomorrow soon, then we have a chance of getting
our dream house. This weekend, we had four workers at our house trying to do
some repair work. They did not speak English, but seemed nice enough from what
I understood from them.
As they were getting ready to leave, I was on the floor
playing with my kids. One of the
workers, whose English was the best, but that’s not saying much, came over to
me and told me I had a beautiful family. I thanked him and asked him if he had any children,
and he told me two and how old they are. Then he said, “But my wife also lost
two while pregnant.” Pause. Of course, given
that the truth serum hasn’t completely worn off, I knew exactly the right thing
to say, “I’m so sorry. I’ve lost five. Trump that!” He was shocked. Then
he told me that “G-d has his reasons.” Ohhhh....What a relief!! I felt so much better to
hear that, as I’m sure you all do, too. I mean, think about it...Can’t get pregnant? G-d has his
reasons! Husband might be very sick? G-d has his reasons! Had another
miscarriage? Don’t worry…G-D HAS HIS REASONS!! Doesn't it all make sense now?? Just thought I’d pass those
words of reason and reassurance on to you all. Hope it makes your day as much
as it made mine.
Hi- found your blog via Antigone's. I am sorry for all of your losses.
As for the "God has his reasons" quote, I wish that were comforting. But it's not, and it actually hurts more to think that people really believe that. That would mean that for some reason God is choosing this for you. I mean to say that he has his reasons implies that he's singling you out. And who would want to believe in a God like that? Quotes like that make me want to run away from my religion.

How amazing a man that actually spoke about his losses. And yes, there are days I believe that G*d has his reasons and there are days that I think he is mean for taking my son.
Today, I will think that it is nice to have others to share my walk. Thank you, for the story it does bring in a little sunshine!

I ranted about such stupid phrases on my blog. "God has his reasons"; "God only gives us what we can handle"; "They are in a better place with God".
Ugh!.

Eh. I'm not 100% sold on the "God makes babies die" thing. More thinking that the world just plain isn't perfect.
It's just not comforting.

I hope the house thing works out well.
I find the things that are comforting are different for everyone. I don't mind hearing "at least you know you can get pregnant," but I know it drives some people crazy.
"God has his reasons" pushes my buttons, though. Sorry you got slapped with it.

*Meh*...When people say things like that I just figure they don't know what else to say and so resort to a platitude.
